Friday 23 July - Sunday 25 July
What is Tramlines?
Tramlines is an urban music festival across 50 venues and 3 outdoor stages in Sheffield City Centre.
When is it?
Friday July 23rd – Sunday July 25th 2010.
What’s new for 2010?
Lots! For starters, there are more venues involved – over 50, with new additions including The Leadmill, the O2 Academy and the University of Sheffield’s three venues: The Octagon, The Foundry and the Raynor Lounge. The Main Stage on Devonshire Green will have an increased capacity of 8,000. There’s also a new outdoor venue – the 2,500 capacity New Music Stage at Barkers Pool will be hosted by DrownedinSound on Saturday July 24th. We’re also going green, with the help of Sheffield Is My Planet, who’ll be assisting us with the hosting of a solar powered disco!
Who’s playing, and where?
For a list of confirmed bands and DJs, see the Lineup page. A map showing the participating venues can be found on the Venues page. Stages and set times will be announced in early July, as many acts are still to be confirmed.
How much does it cost?
It’s FREE!!!
Will we need tickets?
Nope, this year you won’t need tickets for any part of the festival – all venues and stages will operate on a first-come-first-served basis so just turn up.
How do I get there?
The festival covers most of Sheffield City Centre which has excellent transport links. Why not leave the car at home and support the festival’s Green ethos? You can find out about local public transport and plan your route here.
Who does Tramlines appeal to?
It doesn’t matter if you’re 8 or 80 there is something for everyone at Tramlines. With 50 venues across the city playing all genres of music, Junior Tramlines, the Youth Music Festival, the Fringe and much more, you certainly won’t be bored!
What is there for kids to do?
On Saturday July 24th, the Winter Garden and Millennium Square will play host to Junior Tramlines, with DJ Rob Wellington overseeing a programme of music and dance for young people. Taking place from 11am until 5pm, activities will include Mini Chance to Dance (with Sheffield Dragons, Stepz Dance Academy, City Limits and Concord Allstars), magic from Barney Baloney, storytelling, face painting, crafts and exercises with the Play Rangers.
What is there for teenagers to do?
This year we’re holding a Youth Music Festival in Corporation on Saturday July 24th. Co-ordinated by Alan Deadman of The Musical Works and Mark Hobson – owner of Corporation, the Youth Music Festival will be a culmination of a programme of workshops and projects being run in Sheffield on the build up to the festival. We want all talented youth between the ages of 11 and 18 who want to take part to get in touch. We are particularly keen to hear from young bands, producers, dancers, film makers and soloists. Get in touch here.
How many people are you expecting?
Last year over 35,000 people attended Tramlines over the weekend, this year we want to double that
